Rwanda FAQs:
What’s the weather like in Rwanda during May-June?
This is the end of the “long-rain” season in Rwanda. Temperatures in Kigali will range from 55–80°F (13-27C°). The mountains will be cooler; the average high temperature there is 70° (21°C). We can expect frequent thunderstorms. You should bring layered clothing to accommodate a range of temperatures.

Can we bring gifts for our sisters and/or other women that WFWI supports?
Yes, here are the things that have been requested:
- For children:
School supplies, such as pencils, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, erasers, etc.
- For the women:
Small toiletries (moisturizer, Chapstick, soap, nothing too fancy), "cheater" glasses (the kind you buy at the drugstore that are basically glorified magnifying glasses) for women involved in knitting or doing close handiwork, flip flops.

What does my $1000 donation fund?
You are able to choose how your donation is spent. Here are the two options:
- direct the entire $1000 to WFWI for general expense purposes
- choose to sponsor one sister (approximately $354/year) and have the remainder ($646) of your donation used for WFWI general expenses.
You can let us know your choice on your credit card authorization form.

If I already have a sister through WFWI, does that count as part of my donation?
It's great that you already have a sister, however we are still requiring the full $1000 donation to participate in this journey.

If I already have a past or present WFWI sister in Rwanda (that I sponsored separate from the Metta Journeys trip), can you help me meet her while I’m over there?
WFWI will try to find your sister for you and tell her you are visiting, but, for logistical reasons, neither we nor they can guarantee that you will be able to meet with her while you are in Kigali. We can guarantee, however, that you will meet the sister you sponsor through the Metta Journeys trip.

Will I need any vaccinations for Rwanda?
Yes, you will likely need a few vaccinations, depending on what you have been vaccinated for in the past and when. Please check the Center for Disease Control’s website at wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationRwanda.aspx for specifics, and try to make an appointment with your doctor or local immunization clinic at least 4-6 weeks before your scheduled departure as some vaccinations need be administered in a series.
